This maritime LLM Top-Up route allows students who have passed the Lloyd’s Maritime Academy Postgraduate Diploma in Maritime Law distance learning course to obtain a master's qualification.

Your path to getting ahead

The LLM in International Maritime Law (Top-Up) consists of
   • A research-based module with two assessments
   • A dissertation

The dissertation topic focuses on an area of interest to individual students. You will receive full guidance and support from the course director throughout the dissertation writing process.

Having successfully completed the Postgraduate Diploma in Maritime Law, you will already be knowledgeable about the many benefits of studying by distance learning. Just one example is the ability to set your own study schedule – an undoubtedly excellent means to undertake a Master's qualification where other commitments frequently prevent full or part-time study.

LLM Top-Up programme consists of:

Researching Business Law Module
Providing an introduction to legal research and the writing of legally researched papers.

Assessed by two coursework components:
1) A literature review
2) A research proposal

Dissertation
Your opportunity to do a major, extended piece of research on a maritime law topic of your choice. The dissertation should aim to suggest a new way of thinking about and/or improved understanding of the topic you have researched.

Assessment
Your performance is assessed by means of:

  • Two pieces of written coursework for the module (together worth 15%),
  • A dissertation (worth 85%).
