The scale of the global shipbuilding market, from smaller support vessels through to specialist ships, massive cargo vessels and cruise ships is vast. This crucial course investigates all aspects of vessel newbuilding and shipyard contracts.  With supply and demand cycles in the shipping industry, contracting a newbuilding is always a challenging decision with opportunities for profits for the knowledgeable but losses easily threaten for simple business or contractual misunderstanding or mistakes. 

During the six modules we will investigate shipbuilding contracts, with a detailed look at the stakeholders, processes, finance, legal and commercial issues, delivery and guarantees. Jonathan Kemp, Solicitor, Keates Ferris

Jonathan is a specialist maritime lawyer with Keates Ferris.

Taking advantage of an early career at sea as a navigating officer in the Royal Navy, Jonathan qualified as a solicitor in 1990 and since then has gained an intimate knowledge of the shipping industry and its cycles. He has worked in Singapore, London and now in Newcastle upon Tyne.
