Dr Simon Norton, Lecturer at Cardiff Business School

Dr. Norton holds a Master's Degree in Maritime Law, and a Doctorate in Shipping Finance. He is currently a lecturer in constitutional law and bank regulation at Cardiff Business School. He previously worked in a Japanese finance house in London in the capital markets, specialising in swaps and new bond issues.

Dr. Norton has also worked for the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers for over five years where he was a tutor in marine insurance. He also prepared the syllabus and wrote the course book for Shipping Finance for the Institute. For several years he was also the Appeals Officer at the Institute.

For the past few years Dr. Norton has lectured extensively as a guest lecturer in the West Indies in the fields of maritime law, ports policy, and shipping finance.

Dr. Norton is a trustee with a well-established London museum-art gallery, and takes an active role in London life. He is also a Friend of St. Paul’s Cathedral. He has published many academic articles in national and international journals in the fields of corporate governance and taxation. He has also supervised dozens of masters dissertations, and supervised a good number of students through to successful completion of their doctorates.

Dr Evi Plomaritou

Shipping Consultant in Chartering and Marketing

Dr. Evi Plomaritou is a Consultant in the fields of Chartering and Shipping Marketing. She undertakes the planning of marketing strategies and chartering policies of shipping companies, the in-company professional training, as well as lecturing for academic institutions or professional bodies in Greece and abroad. Since 2008, she has been working as a Lecturer of Frederick University (Cyprus) and since 2005, she has been teaching at the Department of Maritime Studies of the University of Piraeus. From 2007 to June 2012 she worked as a Visiting Professor and Doctoral Supervisor of the European University in Switzerland. From 2008 to 2011 Dr. Evi Plomaritou worked as a Senior Lecturer for the Business College of Athens (which collaborates with London Metropolitan University). From 2001 to 2008, Dr. Evi Plomaritou worked for the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (ICS) providing consulting and training services to Greek shipping practitioners, while in 2005 she was actively involved with the foundation of the ICS Greek Branch. From 1997 to 2001, she was the Academic Coordinator of the Shipping Department of Mediterranean College in Greece while at the same time she was a fellow researcher in Maritime Projects at the Research Centre of the University of Piraeus. Moreover, she has had a 9-month practical experience onboard bulk carriers. During the voyages, she has fulfilled research concerning the loading / discharging operation of dry cargoes, which is included in her book titled "Chartering".

Dr Evi Plomaritou was awarded with distinction her “Doctorate Degree in Chartering Policy and Marketing Strategy of Shipping Companies” from the University of Piraeus. She holds the postgraduate title “Master of Science in International Transport” from the University of Cardiff in Wales, the “Master by Research in Business Administration” from Capitol College in the USA, the “Advanced Diploma in Transport & Logistics” from the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport in the UK and the “Professional Diploma in Dry Cargo Chartering” from the Cambridge Academy of Transport. She has graduated with distinction from the Department of Maritime Studies of the University of Piraeus (BSc. in Maritime Business).

Her writing experience includes mainly the following books:

  • Chartering (with accompanied DVD in cooperation with BIMCO, 3rd edition, 2010, in Greek, 1319 pages).
  • Marketing of Shipping Companies (Recommended by the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers, 2008, in English, 233 pages).
  • Marketing of Shipping Companies as a Tool for Improvement of Chartering Policy (2006, in Greek, 552 pages).
  • Shipping Organizations Framework for Internal Assessment (European Business Ethics Network, 2006, in English, 110 pages).


Katerina Konsta Dip Fin, BSc, MSc, PhD (cand)
Shipping Consultant

Katerina is currently working as a shipping consultant.

She was for a number of years the Head of the Shipping, Transport & Logistics Department at BCA College of Athens (Greece) which collaborates with London Metropolitan University (UK). Her extensive teaching experience has been gained at various colleges and universities, lecturing on undergraduate courses in shipping, maritime business and related subjects.

She also has many years’ experience as an industry consultant, working in Greece and the UK on varied projects in national and international shipping and logistics.

Katerina holds a degree in Maritime Business and Maritime Law from University of Plymouth (UK). Prior to this she studied Business & Finance at North Hertfordshire College (UK). Her postgraduate studies include International Shipping at the University of Plymouth (UK) and Maritime Studies with International Transport at the University of Piraeus (Greece). She is currently working on her PhD at Plymouth University.

Katerina is also a member of the International Association of Maritime Economists (IAME), Women’s International Shipping & Trading Association (WISTA) and the Hellenic Association of Maritime Economists (HAME).

Her research focuses on shipping policy and strategy, logistics, freight analysis and vessel sale and purchase. She is the author of articles and papers in a range of magazines and newspapers as well as being a reviewer for the Maritime Policy & Management Journal. She is a respected participant in various shipping and logistics conferences and forums.

Dr Marina Zanne
Senior Lecturer, University of Ljubljana

Dr. Marina Zanne is a senior lecturer at the Faculty of Maritime Studies and Transport (University of Ljubljana). She is the Chair for Economics and Management in Traffic and has 10 years of lecturing experience. Marina Zanne received all of her degrees at the University of Ljubljana; a professional degree in Applied Mathematics from the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics;  a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Transport Technology (with the focus on maritime transport) from the Faculty of Maritime Studies and Transport and the Doctoral degree from the Faculty of Economics. In addition to lecturing, Dr. Zanne has been involved as a researcher in several European and national projects, like EA Seaway, iFreightMED-DC, SoNorA - South North Axis or Adriatic-Baltic landbridge. She is the author of approximately 35 papers, which have been published in scientific journals or presented at various international conferences. Dr. Zanne is a secretary of the Slovenian Association of Transport Sciences and is the President of the Organizing Committee of the International Conference on Transport Science. In her free time, she enjoys bike riding and taking photos. Her plans for 2015 include taking part in the Ljubljana marathon in October 2015.

Dr. Andreas G. Koutoupis BSc (Honors), MSc, PhD, CMIIA, CIA, CICA, CCSA, CRMA, CCS
Head of Governance, Risk & Internal Audit Services (Director), Mazars

Before joining Mazars, Dr Koutoupis served as a Senior Manager within the Internal Audit Services department of PricewaterhouseCoopers, responsible for the Financial Services Internal Audit Assurance & Consulting Services for more than ten years. He has also been a Professional Trainer in Corporate Governance, Business Risk Management and Internal Audit related topics. Dr Koutoupis is also an Adjunct Lecturer of Accounting and Auditing in the University of the Aegean and also lectures Internal Auditing in the MSc of Taxation and Auditing at the Panteion University of Athens, as well as at the Greek Open University, IESEG University (France); and the National Centre of Public Administration in Athens, Greece.

He has been awarded a BSc in Public Administration with a distinction (Panteion University, Greece); an MSc in Internal Auditing and Management (Cass Business School, UK); and a PhD in Corporate Governance and Internal Controls with a distinction (Panteion University, Greece). He is a Chartered Internal Auditor (CMIIA); Certified Internal Auditor (CIA); Certified Internal Controls Auditor (CICA); Certified in Control Self-Assessment (CCSA); Certified in Risk Management Assurance (CRMA); and Certified Controls Specialist (CCS). Dr Koutoupis is an Internal Quality Assessment validator of the International Institute of Internal Auditors. He holds an ‘A’ class Greek Accounting & Tax License from the Economic Chamber of Greece.

In 2005, he received the Michael J. Barett award by the International Institute of Internal Auditors, while in April 2006, he received a PhD Colloquium award (Cass Business School) for distinctive performance by the IIA-Italy. He is an Editorial Review Board Member of the International Journal of Organizational Analysis (Emerald) and the Journal of Business and Finance (ISSN: 2305 - 1825). In 2014 The IIA Research Foundation published an Academic Research (Koutoupis et al.) entitled Internal Audit Around the World: A perspective on Global Regions.
