Charles has a Master's degree in Security and Risk Management, is a Fellow of the Security Institute (where he sits on the Academic Board), and is a specialist with the Institute of Risk Management.
He served with the Royal Military Police for 22 years specialising in security, and since 2003 has been heavily involved in maritime security, concentrating on counter-terrorism and anti-piracy strategies.
