Dr Christodoulou-Varotsi is a legal and academic expert with an international educational and professional background specialised in maritime and EU law. She has been a member of the Athens Bar Association (Greece) since 1995 and is currently involved with consulting work, legal education and training (with Lloyd’s Maritime Academy and with an international ship classification society). She is also a certified trainer and lecturer in Greece, as well as an accredited mediator. In 2018 she will be releasing the book Marine Pollution Control: Legal and Managerial Frameworks, which is part of the Lloyd's Practical Shipping Guides series.

In her capacity as a consultant, she has notably advised ship-owning interests and has drafted numerous ratification statutes for the harmonization of the maritime law of a major maritime country to EU law, as well as for the ratification of ILO MLC 2006. She has spent seven years as a Professor at the School of Business of DEREE - The American College of Greece, after having taught as an Adjunct Professor at the Panteion University of Athens.
She is a graduate (Maîtrise) of the Faculty of Law of the University of Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne (France) and a holder of a postgraduate degree (D.E.A.) in European and international law from the same University. She is also a Doctor of Laws with the highest distinction (University of Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne). Her thesis addressed the adaptation of Greek and Cypriot maritime law to EC law (Post-doctoral research experience, Scandinavian Institute of Maritime Law). She has published many books, including: Maritime Work Law Fundamentals: Responsible Shipowners, Reliable Seafarers with D. Pentsov (Springer/Germany) and Maritime Safety Law and Policies of the EU and the US: Antagonism or Synergy? (Springer/Germany).
